Securing Airports With Explosive Detection Devices
Import and export is the oldest trading way while cargo is sent through airplanes. Due to this smuggling and bomb threats grew which brought us to come up with a device to stop any bomb threats or smuggling in the safest way possible. Airports, railway stations, sea ports and even big hotels and shopping malls were installed with explosive detection devices (EDD) to prevent any terrorist attack that can threaten the lives of the people in that area. Newest advances are being made each day in these explosive detection devices to completely make the chances of smuggling or bombs threats to a zero level making public places, airports, railways etc safe place to be.
Many transportation means have now been introduced to make the trading process a lot quicker and easier. Since every facility is somehow used for the worst cause these trading means started to be used for smuggling, bombing or hijacking. Guns, explosives and other military hardware were being transported without any legal documentation or the government knowing about it. To put an end to these threat explosive detection devices were installed in each of those places where this kind of suspicious activity may take place. This still did not stop terrorists to do their activity which also brought us to searching each individual’s clothes and personal stuff. Liquids and medicines of all sorts were banned to be taken through airports and railways except for having it with legal documentation which is pretty hard to get.

Explosive detection devices were first introduced in 1994 and were certified as a reliable machine by US Federal Aviation Administration. The company that introduced this took two years to make sure the machine worked flawlessly and can be relied on completely. The main purpose for the explosive detection devices (EDD) is to scan luggage, bags and purses of all kinds no matter what material they are made of and find anything that can be a risk to the public citizens or private property of the government. These devices run an x-ray scan on the television while a professional watches for anything suspicious inside the luggage without opening them on the airport to save time. Some of the explosive detection devices trigger an alarm which works through a software and detects things all on its own. In 1997 explosive detection devices were installed in all the busiest and largest airports of USA to secure them completely. Further these devices were transported to other part of the world and as of now we can see all malls, hotels, restaurants, airports, railways etc have this device for security reasons. The widely used explosive detection device is the CTX-5500DS certified by FAA and is used to scan and detect explosive materials through luggage.

The EDD facility has not stopped here as much advancement is being made each day to make terrorist attacks and threats to a zero level. New machines and devices are being introduced to help make traveling and transportation of all sorts more safe. No matter how the busiest airport you are in they do not let you through except for making you and your luggage go through explosive detective device. Using information technology to our benefits there are machines that do not even need supervision and can detect explosives and bomb material with the help of computerized software. This software has a memory to save all sorts of material used or involved in explosives or bombing and differentiates them from the other stuff in the luggage.
